On Sunday, Aragorn, son of Arathorn, organized a gathering to protest the arrest and removal of two hobbits from the Amon Hen area of the Great River.
“When I realized they were taking the hobbits to Isengard, I could not simply sit by and be idle,” said Aragorn, one time lead Ranger of the Dúnedain.
“I knew we had to send a message that Saruman could not ignore. So we’re here today to make our voices heard.”
The aspiring King of Gondor expressed pleasure with the diversity of the group that showed up.
“We’re a small but mighty company,” he said. “The Free Peoples of Middle-earth are all represented here. I couldn’t have asked for a better turnout.”
Among the two others who protested were Prince Legolas Greenleaf—the son of King Thranduil of the Mirkwood Elves—and Gimli, son of Glóin, a Dwarven Lord.
“I asked Daddy if he could send someone to make Saruman let my friends go,” Legolas said. “But he told me to grow up and find something constructive to do. So I came to show my displeasure of the wizard’s actions by standing outside Orthanc and singing chants.”
Gimli grunted and refused to answer any questions. He did, however, hurl many insults at the large black tower.
Saruman has yet to respond to allegations that the Uruk Hai who captured the hobbits several days ago did so under his direction.
Another man, Boromir, was killed during the arrest. Saruman seemed unmoved by the news.
“There is no evidence that anyone died during the arrest of the dangerous and meddling halflings,” the wizened old man said. “Who even is this Boromir, anyway? That sounds like a fake name.”
Boromir is the son of Denethor, longtime Steward in Gondor. He was sent north to seek aid for the country’s ongoing war with Mordor
“If anyone died during the arrest, it’s probably because they didn’t comply with a lawful order,” Saruman added hastily.
“Instead of asking me about matters over which I have no control, why don’t you go ask Theoden down in Meduseld about his gang of Rohirrim terrorists. I hear they’re riding around and killing hard-working Uruk Hai without provocation.”
As for the protest, Aragorn says he just wants his friends back.
“We considered going after the band of orcs who captured Merry and Pippen ourselves. But we figured this would be a better way to free them from the clutches of pure evil.”
The protest is scheduled to continue until 5 p.m. Dunland Time today, or until the hobbits are freed, whichever comes soonest.
